About Us
In 1946, Mrs. Frances “Queenie” Schiele had a vision! That vision was to create a multi-cultural day nursery in the city of St. Louis; the first of its kind in the state of Missouri. Her vision turned into reality, and the doors of The Nursery Foundation of St. Louis were opened 60 years ago.
Today, The Nursery Foundation still operates in a facility on the site of its original location of 1916 North Euclid, and is licensed by the State of Missouri Department of Health Bureau of Child Care. Also, since 1991, The Nursery Foundation has held an accreditation status with the Missouri Voluntary Accreditation of Early Childhood Education Programs. Accreditation means that our educational programs exceed all areas of licensing standards. Our facility is routinely inspected by the City of St. Louis Health and Sanitations departments, the State Fire Marshal, and the Bureau of Child Care Licensing to ensure that we meet health and safety requirements.
Parental involvement is a key to the success of children, and our parents are actively involved in the The Nursery Foundation Parents’ Association. This group is composed of active parents, families and teachers who work together to ensure that the quality of services that The Nursery Foundation is renowned for continues.
The Nursery Foundation has been governed since 1947 by a Board of Directors. Our Board of Directors consists of a variety of community leaders who volunteer their time to the mission of The Nursery Foundation. Click here to view and print our informational brochure.
